And the Selective Tone controls are utterly bad. But I just can't get used to that jerky, slow editing.

Cause Color, NR and lens correction are the main advantages of PL over LR or any other software that I use. PL cleraly has an advantage over LR for FUJI files, if there is a lens profile availabe. The latest hardware may improve that - but I am certainly not spendig several thousand EUROS on a program if others like LR perform just fine. But editing requires fine adjustments that show instantly on the screen - and that PL doesn't do. Applying a preset and then let it run, and then run again for a long time on export is okay. It might be a capable editor - but it is so darn slow in all that it does, that I would not use it for edits. Always speak for myself - and not for the rest of you. First you see the SOOC JPEG (resized only) and then the processed/edited image from the raw file - all editing done in PL5 including a couple things I'm pretty sure you can't do in LR because LR doesn't have the editing feature. You're not required to use it's full-featured editing abilities but that doesn't mean the rest of us can't.Ĭase in point the image below. Exposure, WB, NR and lens correction and then export.ĭXO PL5 is a raw converter/editor and very capable as an editor. But yes, everyoen has their own preference. The "Selective Tone" tool which is my main editing tool in LR doesn't even com close to that in LR. Ow…that would be AdobeRGB …oops…Adobe😉Īs an editor, PL is just too slow and cumbersome. For printing I export as 16bit Tiff from PL to Qimage One. PL is more than enough/ capable enough to do almost all my editing. Only a very small percentage goes to Affinity Photo…maybe for panoramas or HDR. For example, your conclusion is quite different to mine.Īgree.

People have to decide what's right for them. Since I made this determination for myself, I am a lot more at ease. In particular, you can't do any compositing in PL, nor do any drawing. I find that less than 1% of images need more editing than is possible in PL5. What I still have to decide is whether I will continue export to TIFF, or if JPEG is fine for the final touch up. So I do the basic adjusments in DxO PL (Lens, Color, Noise etc.) and then export to TIFF for further edit in LR or PS, if required.

But they don't have the full functionality of a layer-based pixel editor like PS or Affinity.įinally realized that DxO PL is a raw converter only. Some of us find PL's editing tools powerful and easy to use. But I never really got comfortable with the editing tools in DxO PL. It is not an editor.įor a long time, I have tried to convince myself that I should move my raw processing to DxO cause I like the results a lot more than what I get in LR. The title of this thread is stating something pretty obvious.
